Andrew is one of our Senior Quantity Surveyors, responsible for commercial management of various R&M, Planned Maintenance and Project works that DFL undertake. During 2015/2016, Andrew was pivotal in the establishment and subsequent growth of the Repairs & Maintenance department.

About Andrew

Andrew joined the team initially as an Assistant Estimator/QS after completing a Building Surveying (BSc) degree at Northumbria University in 2013. Assisting with fencing & landscaping tenders for new build sites and one-off projects/schemes, Andrew worked closely with the procurement department and gained fundamental knowledge and experience in all aspects of procurement and our supply chain.

Early 2015, Andrew was promoted to the role of Quantity Surveyor, gaining further knowledge within the business including procurement, estimating, quantity surveying and commercial management. Andrew was responsible for the social housing regeneration contracts that Deerness Fencing & Landscaping were awarded.
This role involved carrying out site surveys prior to project commencement, accurate weekly measures of works completed, placement of orders and liaising with client quantity surveyors and clerks of work. Within this remit Andrew was also responsible for recording/ pricing any variations to projects, timely submission of applications and providing a communicational buffer between site supervisors and commercial management.

During 2015/2016, Andrew was pivotal in the establishment and subsequent growth of the Repairs & Maintenance department. Carrying out initial surveys, providing accurate costings and liaising with operational team members, admin support and clients alike.

In 2017, Andrew was promoted to the position of Senior Quantity Surveyor, however decided to depart the business shortly thereafter to continue his personal development within the construction industry. Throughout his time away, Andrew gained a wealth of experience in Construction, M&E & Civil Engineering related projects while working for local, privately owned companies.

Following a return to Deerness Fencing & Landscaping Ltd in August 2020, Andrew is now responsible for the commercial management of various R&M, Planned Maintenance and Project works that DFL undertake for a number of clients, including local authorities and social housing associations across the region.

Deerness Fencing & Landscaping have worked in Partnership with North Tyneside Council, carrying out planned fencing works for the past 10 years with an average annual value of £1,200,000. We supported the client with budget planning which involved fencing surveys of individual properties.
