Read articleNick began in the fencing industry and eventually advanced to his current role of Estimating and Procurement Manager at Deerness.
In 2025, Nick was promoted to Estimating and Procurement Manager, reflecting his growing leadership role within the business.
Nick is responsible for all aspects of estimating and procurement for new build plot sites, civil works, and project tenders. This includes producing CAD take-offs to calculate quantities, sizes, and material requirements; interpreting drawings to fully understand each scheme; compiling bills of quantities; and preparing and submitting competitive, successful tenders.
Once a tender is secured, Nick coordinates the collation of all drawings and project information for both commercial and construction files. He then leads a formal handover meeting with the contract teams to ensure a smooth transition from tender stage to project delivery.
Nick also manages the search and submission of tenders through framework portals and procurement platforms used by local authorities and housing associations. He gathers all tender documentation, prepares compliant submissions, and ensures bids meet all client requirements before handing successful awards to the commercial and operations departments.
In addition to his estimating and tendering responsibilities, Nick oversees the annual renewal of the company’s key industry accreditations. He is the Quality Manager for the company’s ISO 9001:2015 management system and also plays a key role in maintaining compliance with ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety). This includes ensuring all quality, environmental, and safety policies and business systems remain compliant, current, and effective.
In September 2022, Nick was asked to join the team to support the development of the company’s new website and rebrand. Working closely with colleagues and the website developer, he played a key role in successfully launching the company’s new brand and website.
